President’s Corner

March 2012

Howdy Ags!

Well, it’s a new year and that means a new president and slate of officers for the Nueces County A&M Club.  I am really excited to be your new president and I am looking forward to meeting you all at the numerous events we have planned for the year.  Please see the list of our new 2012 officers and board members located on the back page of the newsletter.

First of all, a huge thank you goes to Candace Kessel ’06, our immediate past president.  She organized our successful Annual Banquet and we had a wonderful time inducting our new officers and having W. Miles Mark ’79 as our guest speaker.  Mr. Mark gave us some wonderful insight to Aggie Athletics and some of the great things to come!  Candace was transferred to Houston during her term as President, but she faithfully kept up with her duties by calling in to every Board meeting and by continuing to plan the banquet from afar.  We will miss Candace as she begins her new career in Houston, but she has guaranteed us she will keep in touch and try and make some of the 2012 Club events.

It’s that time of year again to renew your club membership dues. Annual dues are effective January 1 through December 31 every year, so please update your current membership status for 2012 if you haven’t done so already.  Membership dues are first used to cover operational fees of the newsletter such as postage and printing and the remaining dues are then applied to the scholarship fund.  The $25 fee, $20 of which is tax-deductible, entitles you and your family “free entrance” into the Annual Kick-Off BBQ held during each football season at the Lonesome Dove Ranch. Please become a contributing member today! Just fill out the membership form at the back of the newsletter and send in your contribution or visit www.saltyaggies.com to use PayPal.

We have several events coming up in the next few months which I hope you’ll be able to attend. Details on these can be found within the newsletter, but here’s a quick list on what to look for:  Happy hours are the first Thursday of every month, Aggie luncheons are the third Friday of every month, our annual George Puls ’44 Memorial golf tourney and the recently resurrected Aggie Fishing tournament. Most importantly, Aggie Muster is on April 21st in the hospitality room of the new L&F Distributor building on Highway 44. Our speaker is Barry Hendler ’71, member of the Corps Development Council.  If you are on our email listserv, you will receive email reminders of these events. If you still haven’t made it on our list, what are you waiting for?  Send an email to nuecesaggies-subscribe@yahoogroups.com  to get added today so you don’t miss out on future events.

The club had a very successful 2011, with an outstanding golf tournament as our scholarship fundraiser, wonderful fellowship at the Lonesome Dove Kickoff BBQ, increased attendance at our monthly luncheons and football game watches, and a great showing of Aggies to outnumber the Texas Exes at Hoot n Holler.  If you weren’t able to attend these events last year, I sure hope you will get a chance to do so this year.  It’s such a blessing to have an active Aggie club here inNuecesCountyand I’m looking forward to another outstanding year.

 Gig ’Em Aggies!
